Siphumlile (Phumi) Nqoko, Counselling Psychologist

Phumi is the founder of SJN Psychologists, a private practice at Bryanston Corner Office Park in Johannesburg. She holds BSS, BSS (Honours) and Master of Social Science (Psychology) degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed her internship at Helen Joseph Hospital.

She works with adults and adolescents across a broad range of difficulties, with particular interest in depression, anxiety, complex trauma and relational patterns that repeat across a person's life. Her approach is integrative: psychodynamic and attachment-informed at its core, drawing on CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, emotion-focused therapy and narrative and experiential methods as the work requires.

Beyond the consulting room, Phumi has contributed to public conversations about mental health on radio and is a member of the Employee Assistance Professionals Association of South Africa (EAPA-SA). She is committed to widening access to mental health care in South Africa and to a practice in which every client is treated with dignity, honesty and care.
